An issue with religion

The common understanding of "I don't mind if you have your own religion, but just don't shove it down my throat", tells me that people are entitled to their beliefs regardless of other peoples beliefs, and moreover, even if that said belief is just plain wrong.  Why do we allow this sort of thing in society?  It seems that the many non-believers accept the belief of believers, even though the non-believer openly disagrees with the religion.  Why is this???

Personally, I'm of the belief we need to pull our heads out of our asses and say something.  For instance, a Christian might argue that I am unable to disprove Christianity, but the amount of religions in existence tells me that all religions represent something, but that is rarely God.  So why should I say, "believe what you want, just don't tell me about it"?  The world will get no where with this sort of attitude.  I'm not saying Christians and Muslims should engage in yet more conflict, on the grounds that one is right and the other wrong;  what I am saying is that Christians, Muslims, Buddhist or otherwise should come to find that all of their beliefs are based on stories, myth, and HUMANS.  If the intention of religion is to define GOD, or comprehend the beginning of existence, which it should, then religion should be based on much more evidence than faith and heresay...

If we don't do something about it the world will surely pass along the sands of time unchanged, when progressive improvement towards logic and rational thinking is what we need.

Cheers

In trying to understand a difference of opinion.

I'm tired of having discussions or debates that rarely go anywhere.  In the instance of talking to my friends, we share a common belief and understanding, so when we talk we agree, and we get nowhere.  Whether it be about religion, society, westernism, etc, we can never make progress in our discussions because we all agree.  However, when I leave my familiar surroundings and return to my place of birth, and my "old life", I find myself conflicted with the old status quo, that seems to have changed very little.  In these discussion, we rarely make any progress, because my beliefs, which I hope are sound, make no impact on those that are happy with their way of life.  I was told the other day, "why don't you just let people live the way they want to live?".  And my answer to that is, why should we let something that seems so wrong perpetuate and become an underlying problem of western society.

I would explain more now, but I really need to pull my ideas together and elaborate further in the near future.  Stay tuned (me, anyway, as I know no one reads this anymore)
